Metro Detroit Young Professionals Kiwanis chartered in August 2015. We emphasize the fun aspect of Kiwanis and meet less to ultimately serve more. Our areas of focus are:
In 2018, our club adopted Little Free Libraries as our signature service project. We are excited to foster a love of reading across all ages! We installed and maintain the following Little Free Libraries:
Grant Park in Royal Oak
Oakland Family Services in Pontiac
River Bends Park in Shelby Township
Richmond Middle School in Richmond
Socials
We host monthly socials to allow our members to get to know one another outside of meetings and service projects. Popular socials include Detroit City Football Club games, ice skating, cider mills, and our annual holiday party. No matter the event, we always have a great time!
Fundraisers
We run a number of fundraisers throughout the year, including football Squares boards and our annual Euchre tournament. The money raised supports our own service initiatives as well as:
Adopt A Family: Adopt a family for the holidays.
Kiwanis of Michigan Foundation: Support key programs at four children’s hospitals around Michigan that provide therapies and activities to allow kids to be kids while undergoing treatment.
Kiwanis Children’s Fund: Support Kiwanis International’s programs on kids’ health and nutrition, education and literacy, and youth leadership development.
Richmond Middle School Builder’s Club
In 2019, we began sponsoring Richmond Middle School’s Builders Club. These amazing middle school students have continued on their leadership journey and make a tremendous impact in their school and community. The work they do is truly inspirational and we can’t wait to see what they do in the future. We are proud to instill a lifelong commitment to service in each of them.

Volunteer bell ringers are more than an icon of the Christmas season; they're the difference between an empty kettle and one that raises the funds that sustain the help The Salvation Army provides all year long. When you volunteer to stand at a kettle, you're not just ringing a bell...you're changing lives. Join us as we bell ring outside of Hollywood Markets in Royal Oak! You will sign up for 1 of 4 shifts using code KMDYP. Options are: 2:00-3:00, 3:00-4:00, 4:00-5:00 and 5:00 - 6:00.
If you have any additional questions about this service project, please email service director Jeff Ridsdale-Smith at [email protected]. Sign up here.
We have adopted a family for the holidays through Volunteers of America. We will spend the evening shopping for the things that they need but cannot get themselves. The gifts will be wrapped at the Holiday Party.

Join us for a holiday gathering that is potluck and bring your own bottle (BYOB) style, where we will also wrap gifts for our Adopt a Family! It will be fun and games as we enjoy each other's company in festive attire. We will also be doing "White Elephant" gift exchange, for those who are willing to participate. In order to participate, you will have to bring an item wrapped that is $20 in gift-value the day of the event.
The exact address will be shared prior to the event.

Mittens for Detroit is a group that works to make sure kids, teens, and adults in Detroit have new mittens and gloves during the colder months. Handling thousands of donations, they rely on volunteers to handle their large inventory.
We will be participating in one of their bigger events, The Big Sort, which is a series of volunteering drives to handle these mitten and glove inventories. It will be at Campus Martius, in the historic First National Building.

For over 70 years World Medical Relief has collected and distributed surplus medical resources to those in need without regard to race, color, gender, religion, nationality, or political beliefs. Their programs focus on local, national, and international developments. The work of volunteers is an integral part of World Medical Relief that makes it all possible.
